Its Alumni has been respected and looked up to, wherever it has gone. It has served a diverse range of fields be it Engineering and Technology or Business Management. While Jamia Millia Islamia is known for rolling out polished Engineers that have served the world of Technology, there have also been energetic and successful entrepreneurs that have added feathers in its cap. The multi-dimensional focus of the education system of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, aimed at the overall development of a student’s personality is well testified by its Alumni who have not only shown excellence in technical and managerial skills but have also been highly regarded in the world; as ardent social workers, great sportspersons, and of course wonderful family persons!

Anshu Gupta

Mr. Anshu Gupta, a 1989 Civil Engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia is a growth orientated professional presently working with Larsen and Toubro Limited in the capacity of the Senior DGM (Area Manager – Delhi). He has over 20 years of experience in the areas of project handling & implementation, channel management, business development, product promotion, administration, human resource and corporate social responsibility. He had previously worked for 3 years as a Project engineer in CES Limited (India) and for 12 years as the Architectural Head in sales, marketing and production in Gujarat Guardian Limited. His achievements include, being a merit holder in B.Tech (Civil Engineering) and an M.Tech Gold medalist, besides achieving many milestones in the fields of project management, production and project execution, and is also an active social worker.

Deepak Khajouria

Mr. Deepak Khajouria, a Mechanical Engineering 1989 batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia started his professional carrier with Dodsal Group as a Graduate engineer trainee, where he worked for two years before moving onto Doosan Power systems as Assistant Manager – Marketing. He went onto become a senior manager and was transferred to North America as an Operations Director, before being promoted to the position of a Managing Director.  Presently he is a Vice-President, responsible for all commercial and strategy operations for the company in North and Latin America, having worked for the company for over 20 years. He was also the captain of the Faculty’s cricket team, during his B.Tech and is also involved with social ventures in the USA and is an active member of VIBHA. A strong believer in helping people, he has always striven hard to mentor others to help them achieve their potential. Having worked in 3 continents and visited over 30 countries, he is settled in Atlanta, GA, USA, where he lives with his family and has a 8 year old daughter.

Harmanjit Singh Nagi

Mr. Harmanjit Nagi,  a 1989  Electrical Engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia has over 23 years of experience and started his professional career with Pertech Computers Limited (PCL), New Delhi as a design engineer for LAN Networking, PCs’ and monitors, after graduating as an Electrical engineer in 1989. He went onto work for 8 years as a research associate at the Tata Energy Research Institute (TERI), where he managed a diverse range of projects introduced by the Ministry of Power and Finance, World Bank, Asian Development bank, USAID, DFID, UNDP, UNEP among others which included energy planning, detailed feasibility studies in generation, transmission and distribution planning, load forecasting, PPAs, energy pricing, energy efficiency etcetera.

In 1998, he moved onto Electricité de France, as the Business Development Manager for Asia region. Presently, He is the Vice-Director and COO of Electricité de France, India office, and has extensive business development and product development experience in thermal and hydro power generation/transmission/distribution business in India, Vietnam and Laos. His responsibilities also include strategy formulation, capability marketing and developing business plan in Power sector in India and South-East Asia. He also has 4 publications to his credit and has presented energy related papers at various conferences sponsored by CII, FICCI and PFC. His credentials include an advanced training on “Finance for decision making” from IIM-B, a Global Leadership development programme at EDF Training school, Paris, a short-term course in Finance from EDF Management school, training on basic load flow techniques at TOULON EDF Development Centre, Paris. He has also participated in a seminar-workshop on Integrated Resource Planning and Demand Side Management, conducted by USETI and on Environmental Manual for Power Development in Manila.

Majid Jamil
Professor, Jamia Millia Islamia

Dr. Majid Jamil , a 1989 Electrical Engineering Batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, has more than 18 years of experience in Teaching and Research . After completing his B,Tech, He pursued his M.Sc. in Engineering (Power Systems & Drives) from Aligarh Muslim University, India and  Ph. D from Jamia Millia Islamia.  He is currently working as a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Jamia Millia Islamia. Dr. Jamil has published more than 35 papers in the International & National Journals & Conferences.  He has guided more than ten students for PSII Projects at BITS Pilani Dubai campus during 2003-2006. Presently Dr. Jamil is currently guiding eight Ph.D students and two M Tech Dissertations. He is the life member of Indian society for technical education (ISTE) & Institute of Engineers, India. His area of interest are Electric Power Systems, Energy Management, Energy Auditing, Transmission Line Protection, Non Conventional Energy, Petri nets theory, Fuzzy Logic, Power Quality Monitoring and Applications of Expert Systems. Dr. Jamil also established the Jamia Engineering Alumni Association (JEAA) in 1992, and acted as the first President of the Association, which today has a network of thousands of Alumni around the world.

Rajiv Mahajan

Mr. Rajiv Mahajan, a 1989 Electrical Engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, is presently working as a Senior Vice President at Tejas Networks Ltd. The company works in development and marketing of indigenous telecom products. It has been rated as the number-one Telecom transmission product company of India and is a recipient of the Prime Minster award for the best R&D and Innovative Company of India. The company has a global presence in 10 countries worldwide, with products deployed in around 50 countries. Mr.  Mahajan is an active Executive member of TEMA (Telecom Equipment Manufacturer Association ) and TEPC (Telecom Export Promotion Council) besides being involved with various Govt. bodies and initiatives to promote R&D and Manufacturing in India. Besides his work, he is also involved with a NGO called “Cozycot” which is works towards the upliftment and development of special children.

Shalabh Aran

Mr. Shalabh Aran, a 1989 Civil Engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, has over 20 years of experience in architectural consultancy.  After completing his B.Tech , He went on to pursue his Masters in Urban Planning from IIT Roorkee. He then joined Nirmal Overseas Pvt. Ltd. for a year, as a Project Manager for a Fly Ash Plant. In 1992, he started his own venture, ‘Genesis’, to run an architectural consultancy, which was converted to ‘Aran Projects Pvt. Ltd’ in 1996, where he presently serves as the Director.  He has rendered consultancy services to business houses such as Modis, Arvind Group etcetera and has undertaken various projects for the past 15 years. The projects varied from farmhouses and commercial buildings to Industries, Malls and Institutional buildings. In 1997, he designed the ‘Nehru Guest House’, and in 2004, the ‘Open Air Amphitheatre’, both for Jamia Millia Islamia. He also has papers to his name which were printed in the International Journal on Non-Conventional Energy Sources. Also, his post graduate dissertation on ‘Industrial Development Pattern’ was published by a German Publishing House.

Sunil Chopra

Mr. Sunil Chopra is a 1989 Mechanical Engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia and MBA from IIM Lucknow ’91He started his career with Modi Xerox in 1991 where he was one of the most successful senior sales team members in the country with national recognition. He followed that with an equally distinguished stint with Nokia Mobile phones, leading sales and marketing for half the country and Bangladesh. Next, in his role as HR leader for the Retail Finance Business at GE, he was quickly identified as an ‘A’ player and provided global exposure in a very short period of time. His next assignment was as one of the youngest CEOs in Telecom industry. He worked with Shyam group, starting off from scratch, which is now MTS with USD $3 Billion plus valuation. His last corporate stint was as the Director and Country Head for Sapient Technologies– a global technology consulting firm based out of US.

Subsequently Mr. Chopra became an entrepreneur and now is Co-founder and Director for Calance Software and Spruce People Consulting which are engaged in Technology consulting and Executive Search for Global 500 clients. He has had extensive global travel and business experience.

Sunil is a guest speaker and faculty at various leading forums in India which focus on E-governance initiatives as well career counseling. He has been invited as distinguished speaker at some of the leading events that address providing benefits of Govt. schemes to the rural population across the country.

Yogesh Gupta

Mr. Anurag Gupta, a 1990   Electrical Engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, is a professional with over 18 years of experience in techno commercial background. During the last 18 years, he has worked across industries ranging from industrial consumables to consumer products to education management. During the last decade, he has been associated with the education industry, having worked with some of the major brands like Aptech Limited; NIIT Limited & Frankfinn Aviation services Pvt. Limited. He has faced a lot of challenging business scenarios such as the E- com bubble burst, 9/11 World Trade Center episode & subsequent channel unrest, and has come out of the same with great deal of success which is manifested in the accolades that he has won during this period. Mike Dhall

Mr. Mike Dhall, a 1990 Electrical Engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, has more than 19 years of experience in Asset and Service Management solutions. His past experience with Cap Gemini, Ernst & Young and MRO Software gave him invaluable experience in designing Asset Management solutions for large customers in US and Canada. Mike currently manages India operations and streamlining previous acquisitions made by ZenFocus in India. Mike also has an MBA from Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario.

Sachin Khandelwal

Mr. Sachin Khandelwala, a 1990 Mechanical Engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, has over eighteen years of experience, a significant part of which has been with ICICI Bank in the Retail Finance business. He did his MBA in marketing from Sydenham Institute, Mumbai and started his career with Godrej & Boyce for the Office Equipment business and subsequently moved on to Nokia Pagers for a short stint and then moved onto Honda Cars when they started operations in India. He currently heads the ICICI Bank’s Global Remittances and Private Banking business across the domestic and international markets. In the Global Remittances business, ICICI Bank has considerable leadership, especially in the area of online remittance. Global Research function is also a part of his portfolio. He also heads the Mobile Commerce initiatives for the bank and has worked closely with the regulators and key industry associations to roll out the guidelines for Mobile banking and Prepaid Instruments in India. He is a member of World Economic Forum’s Global Forum for Mobile Financial Services. He continues to head the Prepaid International Forum (PIF)’s India Chapter. He is also actively involved with India’s first coalition loyalty program – Imint.

Saleem Ahmad

Mr. Saleem Ahmad, a 1990 Civil Engineering Batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, has over 19 years of experience in Construction projects. He is presently working as a Deputy Chief Engineer with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, having been with it for more than 11 years. Prior to this, he had worked for 8 years with the Mumbai Port Trust as an executive engineer. His work with the DMRC includes construction of tunnels, underground stations, bridges, multi-storey buildings and other projects of civil engineering. He is presently leading a team of professionals to ensure time bound construction of world class metro system (mass rapid transit system) for Delhi. He has successfully completed the task of construction of twin tunnels from Central Secretariat to the Lajpat Nagar segment, having had experience working with tunnel boring machines (TBM), of Chinese make, in Guangzhou with a team of experts to learn finer aspects of tunnelling.

His other achievements include being felicitated by the Managing Director, DMRC for Excellence in Service. Besides, he has also continuously arranged for summer training opportunities for students of the F/O Engineering & Technology.

Sukesh Jain

Mr. Sukesh Jain, a 1990 Mechanical Engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, has over 18 years of experience in Sales, Marketing, Customer Care and Operations.  He started his career with Eicher in 1992 handling tractor sales in Rajasthan.Post Eicher, he worked with companies such as Dataline & Research Technologies (a DSJ group company), and Procall, a Motorola joint venture into Radio Trunking service handling sales and marketing operations. He then joined Bharti Airtel, where he has now served for over 10 years across different business and various functional areas of Sales, Marketing, Customer Service Delivery, Operations and General Management. Currently working as the COO of Airtel Enterprise Services, he is responsible for managing end-to-end Telecom requirements for the top 2500 corporates in North & East Regions. Under his leadership, Airtel Enterprise has witnessed significant achievements in customer and revenue market share, brand saliency and several innovative products and services for the customers. Mr. Tanweer Haroon, a 1990 Electrical Engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia has over 18 years of experience in teaching. After completing his B.tech, He joined the Louisiana State University (LSU), Baton Rouge in the USA and completed his Masters degree in the field of Computer Science. He is currently a faculty member of Devry University, responsible for instructing and development of curriculum, besides being involved with development of software projects in the field of online education. He has developed and taught online courses for reputed Institutions and has also been involved in instructing onsite courses. He was the Program Director and led the development of a cyber security program for MVCC (a part of State University of New York). His experience also includes being a system consultant in the Computer Industry, and he presently resides in New York.

Sanjiv Goyal

Mr. Sanjiv Goyal, a 1991 Civil Engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, also holds an M.Tech from IIT in Delhi, India. He started his career in technology working for strategic staffing providers where he developed a keen sense in managing the staffing needs of large corporate customers and projects. Mr. Goyal has served as the CEO of Droisys Inc. since its inception in 2003. He has unique sales, business development and management background both in the US and internationally. He has functioned as CEO, Director, VP, and Project Manager to many successful organizations (Droisys, IBM, Autonation, Mastech, GMS, RMS), globally (US, Austria, Singapore, Malaysia and India) driving corporate strategy, sales planning, business development, project management and providing direction in determining creative solutions to customers.

Sanjiv is very active in the Pan IIT community. He serves on the IIT Delhi USA executive committee leading the IIT Delhi Alumni Entrepreneur Mentoring program. He has organized PanIIT conferences (Co-chair, PanIIT 2007). Sanjiv also supports children focus charities.

Mohd. Sharif

Dr. Mohammed Sharif, a 1991 Civil Engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, has over 16 years of research, teaching and consulting experience in water resources engineering .After completing his B.Tech, He obtained his Masters degree in Water Resources Engineering from IIT, Roorkee in 1993 and PhD from University of Edinburgh in 1999. He is currently a professor of civil engineering at Jamia Millia Islamia. Prof. Sharif has worked at the University of Waterloo in Canada and at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok. He has received several awards and scholarships during his tenure as faculty at Jamia University. Prof. Sharif is a recipient of Edinburgh University Postgraduate Studentship, United Kingdom overseas research student award, and Centre for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences fellowship. He has recently been awarded prestigious commonwealth academic staff fellowship and is currently with the Newcastle University, UK. Prof. Sharif’s research interests include hydro-climatology, water resources management and optimal operations of reservoir systems. He has published more than 30 research papers in international peer reviewed journals and conferences, and has more than 190 citations of his research work on SCOPUS database.

Upendra Giri

Mr. Upendra Giri, a 1991 batch Civil engineer from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, started his career with CK Kukreja and Associates as an assistant engineer. Two years later, he moved to the USA to complete his M.Sc. in Environmental engineering from Lehigh University, Pennsylvania. He worked for three years with Unitech Engineers (USA) as a Project Controls engineer and then two years with Foster-Wheeler Corporation (USA) as a Project Management professional. In 1999, he founded AstroWix Corporation and has been acting as its CEO since. He has been promoting Project Management best practices across Asia Pacific and is responsible for many of the pioneering efforts towards promotion of the same in India, besides training over 30000 professionals on best practices in Project Management and has led AstroWix help organizations professionally manage projects . He hosted PMICon 2005, based on the theme “Achieving objectives of India Inc. with Project Management Excellence “, and organized PMIConclave 2006 over key locations in India. He also delivered the keynote address at the Microsoft Philippines at the First National Project Management Conference in the Philippines, Pravasi Bhartiya Meet organized by Government of India in Delhi and the first Project Management Day in Pakistan.  He was amongst the eminent speakers at the SAARC’s Regional Project Management Conference held in Sri Lanka, 2010. He holds several honorary positions in India, including membership of the Advisory Board of Project Management Institute (PMI) North India. He is the first Indian to be awarded prestigious Eric Jenett Project Management Excellence Award from PMI, USA for exceptional contributions in the field of Project management. He has also been featured in Property Expert, Zee Business, DD News, DataQuest, Hindustan Times, Times of India and the Education Times.

Anil Gaur

Mr. Anil Gaur, a 1992 Electrical Engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, has over 17 years of experience in developing and delivering scalable, mission-critical and open-source enterprise software products. At present he’s leading the JAVA EE Platform and Glassfish Application Server at Oracle, CA (USA). He has managed delivery of millions of lines of code by a team of 150+ engineers resulting in above $20M revenue and has driven the adoption of J2EE/Java EE from 1.4M to 12M downloads per year. He has previously worked for about 4 years as Director, Software Engineering at Sun Microsystems and for 3 years as Senior Software Engineer at CMC Ltd. Parallel, he is Co-founder of a non-profitable organization ‘Sanjivni’ that helps out the terminally ill patients and works towards growing awareness about Bone Marrow transplant in South Asian community in US and India. He has also been speaker at top industry conferences like JavaOne and Oracle Open World.

Javed Siddiqui

Mr. Javed Siddiqui , a 1994 Mechanical engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, has over 13 years of diverse industrial experience in Project Management . After completing his B.Tech , He started his career with GEEP Industrial Syndicate, where he went on to work for 5 years, leaving as an Assistant Works Engineer. In 2004, he joined GE Energy in the capacity of a Project Manager, where he has been working since. He has held various roles in manufacturing as GET in 1996 during his time with GEEP Industries, and presently in Projects Organization for the GE Energy Plant Asset Management, Asset Reliability Optimization and Control solutions business. Currently residing in New Delhi, he has been instrumental in building PM organization for one of GE Energy’s service businesses in India.

Yasir Abdul Quadir

Mr. Yasir Abdul Quadir, a 1994 Mechanical Engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia has 11 year of experience as a thermal designer for electronic systems and his current research, at Aalto University, Finland, focuses on thermal and reliability characterization of Li-ion polymer batteries for Electric and Hybrid vehicles. After completing his engineering, he went to University of Malaysia and worked on Thermo-mechanical design of electronic components, before moving onto Nokia Corporation, Helsinki, Finland as a senior thermal designer, working on thermal management of mobile phones and network systems. He has participated in EU-Project PROFIT, worked on implementation of Thermal manager software and development of transient simulation guidelines for mobile systems. He has also worked as a thermal designer for the N-93 mobile phone and on thermal implementation of projector modules in mobile phones, and has 7 publications to his credit. His other achievements include being the secretary of the Finnish Cricket Association and Head Coach of the Finnish Cricket Men’s’ team, besides being an ECB Level 2 accredited coach and Level 1 accredited umpire.

Manan Goel

Mr. Manan Goel, a 1995 Electronics and Communication Engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, is presently, Oracle’s Director of Product Marketing for Business Intelligence. Prior to joining Oracle, he gathered over fifteen years of consulting, sales, product management and marketing experience in BI and Data warehousing at companies such as Hyperion Solutions, and Brio Software.  He has a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Duke University, and also earned the distinction of being called the “Fuqua Scholar” – one amongst the top 10% of the graduating class for 2009 MBA program at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

Amit Kharabanda

Mr. Amit Kharabanda, a 1995 mechanical engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, Mr. Amit Kharabanda went on to do his MBA from MDI, Gurgaon and passed out in 1997. Since then he joined Garment Exports for almost a period of 9 years, handling all functions from production, marketing to administration and roles of management. After 2006, he started his own consultancy with his father, representing International companies in India in the field of digital Set-Top Boxes for DTH, cable, antenna and cable suppliers for telecommunication sector. Once stabilised and having achieved growth and success by selling Digital Set-Top Boxes for a Korean company in India to major DTH operators, such as DishTV, TataSky , Airtel etcetera  He lauched MyBox Technologies Pvt. Ltd., India’s first complete indigenous ODM to fill the gap of a supplier in the country’s market. It developed both HW and SW inhouse in India and manufactured the digital Set-Top Boxes to DishTV –India’s largest DTH operator under the brand name of MyBox.

Faisal Abidi is a 2007 Electronics Engineering pass out from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia.Through out his college life he was involved in a host of extra curricular activities that he organized and won. He was an active researcher and completed a 2 month research internship at Swinburne University, Melbourne, Australia as a 3rd year student. His research paper on an innovative approach to chip cooling was accepted in prestigious conferences around the globe and he presented it at the IEMT conference held in Malaysia in 2006.

He started his career with Google India working in the online marketing space where he was recognized and rewarded for his innovative product ideas. Google was followed by British Telecom where he worked as an analyst and was involved in all aspects of marketing and business management of the highest level.

Following his corporate stint, Faisal co-founded RNF Technologies with his long time friend and batch mate Raghib Khan in 2009. RNF has seen tremendous growth since its inception and has already worked for prestigious Fortune 100 companies. Being a product cum services company, RNF dishes out various web based products from time to time and their e-commerce platform saw close to 130k registration in the first quarter of its launch.

Faisal is a marketing enthusiast and has been invited by Google to speak on various online marketing trends.

Raghib Khan is a Software Architect turned Entrepreneur. After passing out in 2007 from Jamia Millia Islamia, he joined AOL where he was one of the key members of AOL’s Shopping portal. He has been a TopCoder member for over 5 years and was one of the 6 Indians to have reached the last stages of TopCoder Open 2007. In his college years, he won 6 first prizes in various IEEE events held.

After serving in AOL for 3 years, he co-founded RNF Technologies with a vision to provide quality services to its clientele and to create innovative technology products. RNF has seen a steady growth since its inception. He has contributed in rolling out various products ranging from e-commerce platforms to online business directories, and has been instrumental in the growth of RNF.

Mr. Sunil Chopra is a 1989 Mechanical Engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia and MBA from IIM Lucknow ’91He started his career with Modi Xerox in 1991 where he was one of the most successful senior sales team members in the country with national recognition. He followed that with an equally distinguished stint with Nokia Mobile phones, leading sales and marketing for half the country and Bangladesh. Next, in his role as HR leader for the Retail Finance Business at GE, he was quickly identified as an ‘A’ player and provided global exposure in a very short period of time. His next assignment was as one of the youngest CEOs in Telecom industry. He worked with Shyam group, starting off from scratch, which is now MTS with USD $3 Billion plus valuation. His last corporate stint was as the Director and Country Head for Sapient Technologies– a global technology consulting firm based out of US.

Subsequently Mr. Chopra became an entrepreneur and now is Co-founder and Director for Calance Software and Spruce People Consulting which are engaged in Technology consulting and Executive Search for Global 500 clients. He has had extensive global travel and business experience.

 

Sunil is a guest speaker and faculty at various leading forums in India which focus on E-governance initiatives as well career counseling. Mr. Sanjiv Goyal, a 1991 Civil Engineering batch passout from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, also holds an M.Tech from IIT in Delhi, India. He started his career in technology working for strategic staffing providers where he developed a keen sense in managing the staffing needs of large corporate customers and projects. Mr. Goyal has served as the CEO of Droisys Inc. since its inception in 2003. He has unique sales, business development and management background both in the US and internationally. He has functioned as CEO, Director, VP, and Project Manager to many successful organizations (Droisys, IBM, Autonation, Mastech, GMS, RMS), globally (US, Austria, Singapore, Malaysia and India) driving corporate strategy, sales planning, business development, project management and providing direction in determining creative solutions to customers.  

Sanjiv is very active in the Pan IIT community. He serves on the IIT Delhi USA executive committee leading the IIT Delhi Alumni Entrepreneur Mentoring program. He has organized PanIIT conferences (Co-chair, PanIIT 2007). Sanjiv also supports children focus charities.
